Coming to the Chrome Web Store

Until the listing is live, use the release package below.

Advanced

Download the current release and load it in developer mode using the steps below.

Google Chrome: developer-mode install

Unzip the package
Extract the release zip to a folder you will keep, for example Documents/Tacet. Chrome loads the extension from this folder, so do not delete it afterwards.
Open the extensions page
Visit chrome://extensions in the address bar.
Enable Developer mode
Use the toggle in the top-right corner of the page.
Load unpacked
Click Load unpacked and choose the folder that contains manifest.json.
Pin it
Click the puzzle-piece icon in the toolbar and pin Tacet so the popup is one click away.

Brave uses the same Chromium extension format, so the identical package applies. Two options:

From the Chrome Web Store
Once the listing is live, open it in Brave and click Add to Brave. Brave may ask you to confirm that you want to install extensions from the Chrome Web Store.
Developer mode
Visit brave://extensions, enable Developer mode, click Load unpacked and choose the unzipped release folder, exactly as in the Chrome steps above.

Brave Shields and Tacet work side by side. Shields blocks network-level trackers; Tacet tidies the content that still renders on the page.

Tacet activates on the desktop site only. Reload any Facebook tab that was already open.

Balanced is a sensible default. Switch modes any time from the popup.

Open the full settings page from the popup for text rules, allow lists, layout and appearance.

Permission	Why it is needed
`storage`	Saves your settings locally in the browser.
Access to `facebook.com`	Lets the content script run on the Facebook desktop site to hide items. It runs nowhere else.
